New Comics: November 5, 2009

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #610: The ending of the Who Was Ben Reilly story. I can't say I'm sad this is over with. This issue was more interesting than the previous two though as we finally find out who Raptor is and what his connection is with Peter and Ben. Kaine, to me, has always been a throw away character. Next week we get back on track with this series though. Deadpool guest stars in an issue which leads into The Gauntlet!

CINDERELLA: FROM FABLETOWN WITH LOVE #1 of 6: Cinderella, aka Cindy, kicks a LOT of ass! This story takes place before the Fall of Fabletown. Cindy is charged with the job of locating a particularly powerful magical item that has found it's way into the Mundy world. What is the item? We don't know. It's located in the Middle East which is the territory of one Aladdin. Will we finally see him? He was mentioned in an issue or two of Fables but he's never shown up. This series has the same level of writing as the main Fables book with just more action. If you love Fables and Jack Of Fables then this is another series you MUST have!

DEADPOOL TEAM-UP #899: Guest Starring The Incredible Hercules! Deadpool is having nightmares. It's driving him...well, I guess it can't drive him mad because he's already there. Anyway, his nightmares are of an opponent he cannot beat. Trying to figure out what is going on DP ends up in a labyrinth with Hercules who is trapped...now DP is too! One thing leads to another, as tends to happen in comics, especially ones with Deadpool, and we find out who the unstoppable enemy is, which was a surprise, we also learn that Nightmare and Arcade have 'teamed up' to take out our hero and Deadpool. First issue of Deadpool's THIRD ongoing series starts off with a bang but begs the question: How much can Marvel put out with the Merc with a Mouth?

DOCTOR VOODOO: AVENGER OF THE SUPERNATURAL #2: This isn't a bad series but on the other hand I can't see it lasting very long. Voodoo is still trying to figure out what's going on. But my question is how this guy didn't know Damion Hellstrom was actually Nightmare in disguise. I'm planning to give this one more issue...then I'm going to decide if this series will continue for me or not.

LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL #1 of 2: Lobo Vs. Satan! Years ago Lobo was killed and because of his violent nature he was banned from dying. However...Satan feels Lobo must be punished for his transgressions and send the Main Man a message in the form of a murdered Space Dolphin. These are the ONLY things in the universe Lobo cares about. So, 'Bo heads to Hell to kill Satan. Along the way he manages to slaughter many 'dead' people. If anyone can make a dead person deader its Lobo! Written by Scott Ian and art by Sam Kieth, this is a surprisingly good read. Adding some layers to Lobo's personality and maintaining his violent nature. I can't wait for #2!

MARVEL ZOMBIES: EVIL EVOLUTION: Zombies vs Apes. I can't say I was excited about this and after reading it I have to admit that this is the FIRST Marvel Zombies book that I didn't like. The story makes very little sense to me, partly because it's hard to figure out where in continuity it takes place. Another problem is the sequences of the story aren't very sensible either. I found I had to re-read parts a few times to figure out what was going on and I've never had to do that with a Marvel Zombies comic. Here's hoping this isn't the last one and this doesn't kill the Marvel Zombies franchise.
The other big problem I had with this was the 'fix' at the end. They managed to delete this entire story from continuity so this whole story was pointless.

NOVA #31: Nova hunts down Darkhawk! At first Nova believes his friend isn't capable of killing someone. The problem arises when another 'Hawk appears and takes on Nova making him think Darkhawk has turned evil. However Nova DOES realize whats going on just before he and Darkhawk disappear from the universe! Another fine issue that focuses on two things: Nova/Darkhawk and the rebuilding of the Nova Corps. The new Nova Corps is being built slowly which I like. It's giving us a chance to get to know who these guys are, I like that!

I also grabbed:
ESSENTIAL GHOST RIDER, VOLUME 3

New Comics: October 28, 2009

FANTASTIC FOUR #572: The Reeds Vs. the Celestials! This one ends the storyline of Reed thinking he must solve everything. The Council Of Reeds is under attack by Celestials. They want the Reeds ability to move from universe to universe and will do anything to get it.
To me, this is odd, the Celestials have always been large silent judges yet here they have a motive beyond that and they 'talk' That aside, it's nice to see this race get some action and actually take out some of the variant Reed Richards'. After they stop the Celestial attack we find out 5 of them escaped: 4 into 1 universe and the last one in a separate universe. I'm hoping we get to deal with the 4 sometime soon.
Overall, this first arch from the new creative team blows the Millar/Hitch run away. The art is spot on, the writing is exciting again and I'm re-energized for this book once more!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #19: Time travel. It usually mucks everything up but once in a while you get a character who can actually make sense of it all. Kang The Conqueror is one of those characters. He pulls the Guardians who are lost in time from their adventure, restores them to their proper age and informs them that they need to prevent Adam Warlock from becoming the Magus. He sends them back to the point where Adam stops the Fault from consuming the universe and moments before he becomes the Magus. Star-Lord tries to reason with him and fails...the cots is high and a few Guardians seemingly pay the ultimate price for it, including Adam Warlock!

JACK OF FABLES #39: Jack Frost takes on his second quest: save the monsters who threatened the live and family of the girl who hired him originally. Seems the monsters are controlled my magic and they don't like it. Jack Frost agrees to save them provided they make peace with the humans.
Meanwhile...Jack Horner goes through some MAJOR changes! He keeps getting fatter, which was freaky, but then he decides to must find a cave as he begins to get scaly and turns green...the tail was new too! Just as he finds the cave he opens his case and lets his treasure pour out just before his transformation is complete: Someone have turned Jack Horner into a DRAGON!

NEW AVENGERS #58: Action issue! Luke Cage turns himself over to Osborn for help with the heart attack thing! The New Avengers on the run confront the Dark Avengers in the sewer and make their escape while Night Nurse holds her own against "Ms. Marvel" Overall, it's a back to action issue that surprised and pleased me! It seems like it's been far to long since we had some good old action! Also, The Hood begins to figure out what's going on with his crew who abandoned him and without his Dormammu based powers he looks human again! I have to wonder how his powers have changed as well!

NOVA #30: The All-New Nova Corps Vs. Ego AND The Mindless Ones! Another fun issue with great action and superb artwork! This is what Marvel Cosmic should be like!

New Comics: October 21, 2009

Nothing really special about this week's books. this might be because I have a really nasty headache and they weren't very entertaining to me. But, here's what I got anyway:
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #609: It continues the story about the Spider-Clone. I didn't care then and I don't care now. These are just filler issues.
DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #4: the Zombie Deadpool Head story continues and will probably be getting better with the next issue.

ALSO...

ARSENIC LULLABY: PULP EDITION OMEGA: It's not politically correct. That means it's funny as well.

CLASSIC MARVEL FIGURINE COLLECTION #99: Morbius, The Living Vampire

New Comics: October 14, 2009

Sorry it's late, lots of stuff going on and this was a really small week.

DEADPOOL #900: Nothing like skipping a few hundred issues to make it look like you have the longest running coming on the shelves today, right? That was the idea behind this issue which is basically an annual done with more flair than normal This was sort of a jam issue with different artists and writers giving their take on Deadpool. Overall it was pretty fun, oddly enough my favorite story was drawn by Rob Liefeld (I know, right?) and written by THE Deadpool writer: Mr. Joe Kelly! It was a really funny story focusing on Deadpool's past, he apparently made a bet with someone when they were kids and he came around to see if he'd won. This doesn't mean there wasn't a heavy body count...including a rather annoying dog.
The second half was a reprint of DEADPOOL TEAM-UP which featured "Widdle Wade" a midget sized clone of the Merc With A Mouth.

FABLES #89: Wow! only 11 issues to go until FABLES #100! This is starting to pick up even more! Totenkinder is back in the Homelands searching for clues on the identity of Mister Dark, she locates his prison box but still can't figure him out. Meanwhile, Bigby and Beast try to gather information from the remains of Fabletown with no success, Mister Dark killed Mrs. Finch, very sad. Then there is the matter of the Monkey Vs the Witch and Genie! The Jinn was captured and the fun part will be how will a little monkey, a magic mirror and the heads of Frankenstein's monster and the wooden soldiers be able to defeat a witch like Baba Yaga?

New Comics: October 7, 2009

This turned out to be a small but expensive week for me. I wasn't able to pick up everything but here is what I did get:

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #608: Alright, now I have to admit I didn't read much of this series in the 1990's but I did hear enough about the "Clone Saga" to know it was worth avoiding. This issue features characters and concepts from that era and really don't interest me. But with the upcoming appearance of Deadpool and the upcoming story "The Gauntlet" I think this and the next issue will serve as sort of 'catch your breath before the ride begins' issues!

DEADPOOL #16: Deadpool's quest to become an X-Man continues as this series hits it's stride again. Seriously, how could any other book but DEADPOOL contain the X-Men, a fight with Domino, a new costume for Deadpool and 372,844 pancakes that all serve a purpose in the story? Deadpool was rejected by the X-Men for being to unpredictable and violent *cough* Wolverine *cough* which makes no sense when you consider WOLVERINE. So, being the bright guy he is...kinda sorta...he decided to show his worth by putting a bullet in the brain pan of the father of one of the newest X-Men because he's causing some trouble for the group and their new...island nation? this is how Deadpool keeps it real!

DOCTOR VOODOO: AVENGER OF THE SUPERNATURAL #1: Besides having the longest title in recent memory, this book features the beginning of Marvel's newest Sorcerer Supreme, the former Brother Voodoo. He has a quest, he needs to find out what the big upcoming threat to our universe is before it happens. He's going around using methods and magics Dr. Strange would have never used. He was able to imprison Dormammu in his domain and was almost taken out by Doctor Doom before Doom realized what the threat was. I think that's what happened. Anyway, I was nervous about this but the first issue was fun. The art is going to take some getting used to but if this series focuses on the supernatural side of the Marvel Universe I think it will be a good series, but I doubt it will last long.

MARVEL SPOTLIGHT: DEADPOOL: It covers the history and upcoming stories of Deadpool. What more is there to say?

Also...
I grabbed PETER & MAX: A FABLES NOVEL and have just started reading it. It's good so far!

Favorite Covers #1

I'm going to start posting my favorite covers from time to time, gearing up for the year long celebration marking 20 years of my collection. All these covers are from comics I own.

ADVENTURES INTO FEAR #19: 1st Appearance of Howard The Duck!

New Comics: September 30, 2009

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #607: The return of the Black Cat continues! She's back, she is followed by bad luck but is she ever hot! Cat and Spider-Man continue to try to figure out why Diablo was robbing the offices of Dexter Bennett, new owner of the Daily Bugle (The DB!) and when they figure it out they have to try to keep their clothes on long enough to save a few lives.
I tell you, Peter Parker is getting more women in his life that want him than he has villains!
Fortunately, I guess, The Cat doesn't want a real relationship with Peter Parker, no, she just wants some fun with Spider-Man. It's nice to see this is back to basics.
While some people might complain about Parker being with so many women one thing that needs to be considered is in the pre-Brand New Day life of Parker he was married. And while many will complain that it isn't right for him to have sex now, you have to remember that he had lots of sex with Mary Jane. Only thing is now he doesn't have to stick with one chick.
Anyway, another poster perfect cover (You hearing this, Marvel???) starts another fantastic issue of the "thrice monthly' Spider-Man series! All of this leads into the Gauntlet. But the question after this issue is Will Diablo be involved? Apparently the new Kraven's mother wants to talk to him about something...

FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH: THE NIGHTMARE WARRIORS #4 of 6: I have to admit, this series is very boring. Part of the problem is there are way to many characters running around that it's difficult to keep track of who's who and what's going on. But, in light of the upcoming vomit inducing remake hitting theaters next April, it's nice to see something with the REAL Freddy Krueger and the REAL Jason Voorhees.

JACK OF FABLES #38: The transition from Jack Horner to Jack Frost continues as Frost, son of Horner, begins to take center stage here. He's still trying to be a hero and while jumping from world to world in that quest he find a young woman who's family is besieged by what appears to be werewolves. Frost agrees to help her but from the looks of things he may be in way over his head!
Meanwhile, Jack Horner is fatter and balder. He's still an asshole though but now he's an asshole with an artist he pissed off which explains why he's turning into a fat old slob!

MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN #5 of 5: In the finale of the most recent Marvel Zombies series we learn something very interesting: This is how it all began! Yeah, apparently the virus began AND ended here. As Zombie Spider-Man tries to gather a group of New Avengers to fight the remaining zombies of Earth-Z things begin to fall into place: The Watcher who was attacked by Zombie Giant Man in the first issue returns and reveals the Watchers no longer have solid forms so he was never in any danger. He determines the only way to stop the virus from spreading is by preventing it's ending from beginning...or the other way around. Anyway, he launches Zombie Sentry into another world "it began with a flash in the sky" is what we read from the beginning and this was it! Zombie Sentry ends up in the universe of the original Marvel Zombies thus putting them in an eternal loop and keeping them from causing more harm to other realities. Now, the question is going to be how permanent will this be? What happens when/if one of the Marvel Zombies figures out what's going on and breaks the cycle?
And MY question is when is the next miniseries going to start!!

THOR #603: Loki and Doom. Interesting. Loki made a deal with Doom, all he wants is an army of robots to destroy Donald Blake, Thor's human half, and bring to him Blake's walking stick (Thor's Hammer) and in return, Loki will reveal the secrets of Asgardian immortality. The painful thing is Doom's robots are built, no problem, but in order to fulfill Doom's request Loki allows Doom to dissect an Argardian! The whole messy thing is discovered by William, a mortal who walks among the Gods and he's attacked. While he holds his own pretty well, he's eventually stabbed just in time for Balder, Asgard's new ruler, to arrive...what happens next???

Classic Marvel Figurine

Still on the quest to replace the ones that were damaged. Today I got my replacement of #1: Spider-Man!

I'll be posting my new comics and 'reviews' of them later today or tomorrow!

New Comics: September 23, 2009

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #606: A GREAT cover by J. Scott Campbell is just the start. This issue features the long awaited return of the Black Cat and a surprise appearance of Diablo! Alright so, Cat is after a book and Spidey doesn't know why. He just had to deal with 3 women all wanting his attention, one of which would also like to pummel him, and adding the feelings he has for the Cat just makes things more entertaining. The first scene in Parker's apartment where his roommate, his co-worker and Mary Jane all come at him is golden. Almost makes you wish he were fighting the Sinister Six, at least that would be easier!
In another part of the story we learn Black Cat's powers of...bad luck(? I never understood that) are back and almost kills Spidey. He finds her on a 'job' which means she's stealing something. Turns out to be a book from the office of the new owner of the DB! (Formerly the Daily Bugle) What's the book got in it and who wants it? That's the mystery and does it tie into The Gauntlet? Don't know but the issue was one of the most entertaining this year!

FANTASTIC FOUR #571: The cover of this one is sweet. Reed Richards with the Infinity Gauntlet standing on the body of Galactus! What does it mean? Well, Reed has been contacted by a Council of Reeds from different realities. they have decided to get together and fix, well, everything. Some have Gauntlets which apparently only work in the reality they are from others are just really damn smart, just like our Reed. While all this is going on, Sue is getting more and more upset with Reed's distancing of himself, she has no idea what's going on, and Franklin is preparing for his birthday party! Reed learns that Doom is quite possibly the worst thing in the Universe and that the Celestials are really mad at the Council! This issue alone blows away that last year and a half of this series!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #18: The Guardians are still trying to find their way to their own timeline. The Fault and Warlock's tampering of it, which has turned him into the Magus (!) have knocked them out of step with time. In many ways this felt like a filler issue, kind of just explaining what's going on while everyone was in the reality from Marvel's version of "The War Of The Worlds" really fun though!

MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN #4 of 5: World War (Zombie) Hulk starts here! Earth Z is having a hell of a time with this whole Zombie thing. Zombie Spider-Man is trying to fix things but Zombie Giant Man is making things much worse. He's taken out the Inhumans who in turn have attacked Hulk returning from "World Without A Hulk." The heroes are learning something is very wrong but it may be too late as Zombie Hulk has attacked and turned this world's Sentry into a Zombie...kind of interesting when you think back to Marvel Zombies #1 where it was Zombie Sentry that started it in that world. Next up: Avengers Dismember! So far this was my favorite issue of this series!

NEW AVENGERS #57: I'm really hoping something is going to happen soon. Last issue the New Avengers all lost their powers...this issue they deal with that, most get their powers back but it seems like Cage is having more trouble than the rest of them. His heart is apparently not able to deal with things and he's having a major heart attack. That is pretty much the bulk of this issue...here's hoping something happens next month!

NOVA #29: Meanwhile, back and the Fault... Nova and his new Corps is learning new things about it. For instance: NASTY things are just beyond the walls of our reality! This one has two things, both bad, in it: 1) World Mind is attacked with some sort of Nanotech that disrupts her defenses, while she tries to repair herself the body she took over, that of the Living Planet Ego, begins to heal very fast and still wants the power of the Nova Corps. 2) We learn that there is a drug that turns some pretty nasty things into Mindless Ones. From the Dark Dimension of Dormammu they blast their way into our reality! This is NOT GOOD!

New Comics for September 16, 2009

This week was a little stronger than I expected.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #605: This one wraps up the "Red Headed Stranger" storyline and shows a little bit of what exactly happened between Peter Parker and Mary Jane. Also we see some of the fall out Peter has to suffer through after the Chameleon made some interesting moves in his life. Overall, it was a decent issue, but what really takes away from it is the $3.99 cover price. Marvel is already getting $12 a month from fans on this series, I don't understand why a random issue needs to be priced at $3.99. The main story was good but, seriously, the other stories here could have easily been back up stories in futures issues.

DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #3: Continuing the story of the Head from the Dead. Deadpool is still in the Savage Land trying to get his head out of trouble...well, the zombified head of the Zombie Deadpool that is. The series is finally starting to come into its own which is more than what can be said for the main Deadpool series. It's a nice change of page to see him dealing with things not directly related to Dark Reign. And, hey, who doesn't love a Zombie T-Rex?

FABLES #88: 12 issues until FABLES #100! This issue focuses mainly on Frau Totenkinder. She has a plan to fix some things but needs to be alone to do it. After talking to King Cole about the money problems the Farm faces she decides to do what she can for them before heading out to do something, presumably, about Mister Dark. It was really interesting to see why she is always on that rocking chair, it's more than just a chair, we also get some more of her origin as well as finally seeing what she's been knitting nearly from the first issue! Let's just say Beauty and the Beast are going to have another mouth to feed!
Also, we see a long little monkey prepare to take on the vile Babba Yagga and a jinn!

MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN #3 of 5: This round goes to Zombie Wolverine! Zombie Spider-Man thinks he has found a way to stop the hunger but he needs a sample of Wolverine's blood in order to use the healing factor. So this world's Wolverine (this world, by the way, is now called Earth-Z) is needed. Problem is he's busy fighting Zombie Wolverine and members of the Hand that have been turned. Things seemingly turn out alright in the end although Earth-Z's Wolverine had some pretty nasty looking bite marks on his arm!

THOR ANNUAL #1: More fallout from the Fall of Thor. Really though this story could have been made part of the regular series as it does fit nicely. I remember when Annuals had an impactful story in them. This was just like a regular issue of Thor. Not really much else can be said except we now know the Death Gods are now gunning for Thor and the Thunder God has lost not only his home and stature but he lacks the confidence needed to be Thor.

Also this week...

TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON, VOLUME 2!

Comic book tally: 4923

New Comics September 9, 2009

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #604: Red-Headed Stranger concludes here as Peter learns some of the fall out of the actions done in his name by the Chameleon. But the big point made here is he remember Peter for some reason and he is also going to be involved with Kraven's daughter and the upcoming storyline "The Gauntlet"
Also, MJ takes center stage in an exchange between her and Peter where it's made very clear that she does in fact know Peter is Spider-Man.

FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH #3 of 6: This series is dying fast. The charm of these characters and their stories is they are pretty self contained. In this series we have the government trying to harness the power of the Necronomicon, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. It's a much larger canvas than these characters generally work on. Then when you add in all the survivors from the A Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th franchises, well, it's just a jumbled mess of everything doing nothing.
MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN #2 of 5: Reality hopping zombie heroes. What fun! The thing I like most about these series is how they revisit classic stories and inject the viciousness of the Marvel Zombies. Last issue was 1960's Spider-Man and this time around it's Drunk Tony Stark. The only thing that is confusing here is are the Zombies all in the same reality or is Zombie Giant Man in a separate reality/time than Zombie Spider-Man was? Something else I'm not really clear on is why they suddenly have The Hunger again. In MZR #1 Zombie Spider-Man noticed The Hunger at about the same time as his lack of the Power Cosmic. Perhaps the reality hopping changed them all in some way. No matter what, though, this is classic Marvel Zombies!

VAMPIRELLA: THE SECOND COMING #1 of 4: I have to admit, I know very little about this character. She's a classic though, been around for 40 years and the fact that this book carries a $1.99 cover price was enough to get me to check it out. I read it and was able to enjoy it somewhat. This seems to handle Vampi as a fictional character yet she's also real...doesn't make much sense but this is only the first issue. If the rest carry the $1.99 cover price I plan to follow this one through.

Not Comics Related

I had to get a new phone today. I guess when Verizon bought out Alltel we couldn't simply keep our phones we have to get Verizon phones. I'm not completely upset about it, I mean it's always fun to learn a new system but I really hate setting a new voice mail message!

New Comics For September 2, 2009

This was a REALLY small week.

DEADPOOL #15: This was something of a shock...DEADPOOL #14 came out just last week! Alright, so, Wade has decided eh actually kind of likes helping people and sets out to do just that. After being adrift at sea for who knows a how long, he eventually gets saved, has more hallucinations and ends up in San Francisco. Once there he tries to blend in by dressing and somewhat acting gay. Some might find that offensive but those people need to sit down and be quite. It was funny and further display how Wade's mind functions when he's not focused on something, like getting paid to kill. His mind wanders...A LOT. Eventually, he figures out what he needs to do: Join the X-Men!

MARVEL ZOMBIES: RETURN #1 of 5: This weekly event picks up the slack of MARVEL ZOMBIES 2 where the original Zombies were zapped out of their reality into new realities. The story opens with the Watcher looking for them. He locates Zombie Spider-Man who ends up in the past of Peter Parker. He tries to reclaim his role as hero but sadly the Hunger is to strong and he ends up bringing the plague to a new world. It's interesting to see old school characters meeting with this blood thirsty ghoul of Spider-Man. It's Zombie Spider-Man Vs. the Sinister Six...which turns into the Sinister Six Course Meal! Also, Uatu, The Watcher, tries to rally his other reality counterparts to locate the remaining Zombies and destroy them. But Zombie Giant Man has other plans!

Again, this was a VERY small week which is fine because after Monday's announcement from Disney, I think we could use some down time.

Disney Buys Marvel

When I get online, generally late morning/early afternoon, I tend to go to newsarama.com and CBR.com to get the latest news in the comics world.
Imagine my surprise when I go to newsarama.com today and see: BREAKING: DISNEY TO ACQUIRE MARVEL.
After I started to breathe again I clicked the link and read what I never thought I'd see: The House of Mouse now owns the House of Ideas.
Now come the questions. What does this mean for comics fans? Will Disney decide certain Marvel books like Marvel Zombies and the entire MAX line, are not something they wish to continue with? Will we see a Disney view of the Marvel Universe? How does this effect the animation and live action Marvel productions? Will we have Marvel/Pixar movies now? Will Xavier's High school Musical for Gifted Children be a mini-series or ongoing?

Marvel and Disney both claim that nothing will change in the Marvel Universe. But how much of that is truth and how much is damage/spin control to keep the fans of Marvel under control?

To be sure, the next few days and weeks are going to be VERY interesting and I'll be covering as much of it here as I can along with my regular stuff.

Coming Up on 20

It's getting close to being 20 years since I started collecting Comic Books with GHOST RIDER, Vol. 2 No. 1 waaaaayyy back in 1990!
I'm planning a year long thing here and on my facebook page where I'm going to spotlight some of my very favorite comics in my collection, along with continuing to post and review the new books.

I'm trying not to jump the gun and start now, but it isn't easy. Here's hoping it all works out. It'll be fun for me anyway!

New Additions

I've added a few new links to this blog. you'll see them under 'Related Links' on the right side of this blog:

Nostalgia, Ink. on Facebook: This is the comic book store I shop at in my hometown. After I set up a Facebook page for my work I figured it would be fun to set one up for Nostalgia. It's free advertising for Leonard, the Owner, and it's fun for me because I'm all about promoting that place.

My Comic Book Collection: It's the new home for my online index. I've had to make some changes and consolidate a few things but it's coming along nicely. I figure this will be getting more attention next year as I'm planning a lot of things for my collection all through new year.

My DVD Collection: I was bored one day and decided it would be a good idea to do for my DVDs what I did for my comics. Plus, it's a quick and easy way for people to see what I have if they ever want me to bring movies over to watch.

That's all. While I'm having fun with my rants and raves on politics and PETA on my other blog, I have to admit, Comic Books are my first passion...well, that and being on the radio. But since the radio thing is less likely to happen, I figure I'll focus more on my passion for comics. Which is why this blog is getting more attention. That and next year marks 20 years since I started collecting.
To mark this special occasion, I'm going to focus more on reviews and fair minded opinions on comics. I also want to try to go through some of the history of the industry, mostly the moments that interest me the most. So, who knows? This little blog may accidentally become something.

New Comics

WOW! This week turned out to be a Mighty Marvel Week to be sure!

DEADPOOL #14: Wade has finally realized something: Being a pirate isn't fun. Just Johnny Depp made it look fun but it's a lot of work. Also, I think while this concept might have seemed like a good idea, it really wasn't. Issues 13 and 14 were probably the most boring issues of this run so far. The story was pretty flat and I found myself thinking about other things and at some points even falling asleep! But, it's over and we can all look forward to issue #15!

FANTASTIC FOUR #570: NEW TEAM! Finally! This one is a marked improvement over the previous year and a half. Hell, even the covers look better with a more traditional FF logo instead of some stupid wanna-be magazine look. The events of the previous issues were pretty much ignored except for the whole Ben ditching his bride to be thing which was gleamed over pretty fast, a good thing, and now it sets the stage for a Reed Richards saga. He's realized the mistakes that he's made, after going over them in DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR, and he plans to fix everything. Possibly with the help of the different Reed Richards' from different realities, some of which, at least three, have Infinity Gauntlets! But didn't the Illuminate have the gems?

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #17: WAR OF KINGS tie-in: The end of the War of kings left a HUGE rip in the fabric of time and space. The Guardians were warned something like this would happen but no one would listen to them. So, being the kind of guy he is, Adam Warlock stood up and stopped the fissure, known as The Fault, from growing. But the cost was heavy: He had to connect current time to a future that was abandoned years ago. Thing is, it was the reality that Adam prevented from being when he prevented the Magus from being created years ago. Now, Warlock is the Magus once more and we've seemingly lost 2 members of the Guardians!

NEW AVENGERS #56: Mayhem! The (New) Avengers have lost their powers and a new player seems to be making a power play in an attempt to be in Osborns good graces. This series has a great artist in Stuart Immonen (NEXTWAVE) and is going in a great new direction! Still loads of fun to read!

NOVA #28: WAR OF KINGS tie-in: Richard has had a lot to go through recently with Worldmind being taken over by Ego, The Living Planet and the War of Kings but he's done pretty well. This issue focuses on his love for his brother and his finally coming to terms that his brother belongs in the corps. Great story and great art.

New Comics For August 19

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #603: Chameleon continues to use Peter's identity to collect information for his employers: terrorists bent on destroying New York City, or so he assumes...
With Peter's face on, Chameleon manages to get REALLY close to his new roommate, stop a stalker from annoying MJ and, towards the end of this issue, settle thing with Harry with a bang! What's going to happen when Peter finally returns and see the damage/help that has been done to his life?
Amazing Spider-Man Has been a great series since the infamous One More Day/Brand New Day reset of Spidey's past. This story features the return of Peter's ex-girlfriend, Mary Jane and has some really nice covers!

JACK OF FABLES #37: Jack Frost, son of Jack Horner, decides his path: He's going to be a hero. His first stop is giving up the powers he inherited from his mother, the Snow Queen, then he has his first fight with thugs. It seems to me there is a little bit of Horner in this guy. Meanwhile...Jack seems to have ticked off his secondary artist. He's being drawn as an unattractive fat, balding guy and now seems to have fogotten who he is in terms of knowing he's a character in a story. His sidekick, Gary seems to have forgotten that he can talk to inanimate objects and bring them to life. I wonder if this is part of the fallout from The Great Fables Crossover? This issue starts a pretty bold new direction for this series in that we have 2 main characters named Jack and the characters are being reset or something.

I also picked up WALKING DEAD, VOLUME 10: WHAT WE BECOME.

New Comics for August 12, 2009

This is 2 weeks worth of comics.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #'s 601 & 602: The fall out of #600 continues! Mary Jane is back in town and there are some interesting things going on. It seems like MJ knows Peter is Spider-Man still. I guess this means he told her before they broke up. It's nice to have MJ as an interesting SUPPORTING character and not a main character like she was before. There is also some interesting set up with The Chameleon, he's kidnapped Peter to take his place in JJJ's administration...and it seems like he dumped Pete in a vat of acid! Gotta wait til next week to see what happens!

DEADPOOL #13: Deadpool decides that since he has more money than ever and has to lay low that it's as good a time as any to become a PIRATE! And every pirate needs a parrot...enter: BOB in a parrot suit! By the end of this issue Deadpool realizes he isn't the only pirate with eyes on the isle of the rich he's set to plunder AND he gets a navigator for his ship...a blind tourist guide!

DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #2: Beyond the great Jaws parody cover by Arthur Suydam this issue is showing this series is starting to find it's stride. Deadpool meets the head of his zombie counter part and is actually suprised by it. The Zombie Deadpool Head or Headpool is pretty interesting as he seems to be able to 'hear' the other voices in Deadpool's head. I'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes!

FABLES #87: Witches, Part 1 of 5: The Great Fables Crossover is done and everyone is back in their own books. But now that the Adversary and Kevin Thorn are defeated...what damage has been done? The Adversary had the power to keep some rather nasty Fables in check. Mister Dark, the boogyman, is free and tracking down the Fables, Fabletown has been destroyed and Baba Yaga is free in The Office with a desire to get revenge...It's up to the Witches of Fables to come up with new spells to protect themselves and create a new home. Oh, and we are 13 issues away from FABLES #100!

WAR OF KINGS #6 of 6: This was a pretty lackluster series. I'm just glad it's over and I'll be taking a break from the next crossover, 2 mini series of 5 issues each that continues from this series...not really interested.

I was also able to finally get STRANGERS IN PARADISE, VOL. 5 thanks to Leonard at Nostalgia, Ink! and I added Man-Thing to my Classic Marvel Figure Collection.

Amazing Spider-Man #600

Clocking in at 104 pages with a price tag of $4.99 I was a little worried this wouldn't be worth it.

See, Marvel has this nasty habit of putting together a real nice package of goodies when they hit an anniversary issue like this but they tend to spoil the fun by adding something useless like a reprint or two. This was the problem I had a few months ago when I picked up THOR #600. Half of it was a really good story and the other half was a reprint that I really didn't care to have. I'm, of the mind if I want these older stories I will go out and but the ESSENTIAL volumes to get them.

Anyway, with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #600 we got ALL-NEW stuff! The lead story was awesome. We finally get the marriage of Peter's Aunt May to JJJ, Sr., which means Peter Parter AKA Spider-Man is now related, by marriage, to his long time annoyance: J.J.J.!
The other thing we had here was the return of Doc Oc. Seems the years haven't been kind to him. After taking many punches to the head, along with other sorts of trauma, the man of the metal arms is dying. This leads him to, in his way, make amends to the city he's terrorized for so long. And like any good villian, the best way to make the lives of others better is to take over every aspect of those lives.

Natually, Spidey, with the help of the Human Torch, save the day, the girls and the city.

Back at the wedding, Peter gets the suprise of his life when Aunt May throws the boquet and it's caught by none other than Mary Jane Watson!

Other parts of this issue were nice. The mock covers added a bit of fun ala Celebrity Roast and the stories by other writers like Stan "The Man" Lee made this an issue to enjoy over and over again.

8-6-2006 to 1-1-2009

I started this blog in Argust 2006 and ended it in July of 2008.
In January 2009, I will be relaunching it. I guess you could consider it as being Fanboys Unlimited, Volume 2.

The offical format will be Comic Book News, Reviews and my opinions on certain Comic Books and characters.
I'm also hoping to be able to expand some into the realm of video games, be they platform, PC or online like World of Warcraft. I'm also thinking about doing some movie/DVD reviews.

I have a few friend that can post here as well and will hope they still want to contribute.

More information coming soon...
